Louis Begley is celebrating his 80th birthday – and he is treating us to a new novel!

Philip is a successful author who returns to New York after living abroad in his adopted hometown of Paris. As a widower, Philip lives happily in his memories of the past – until he encounters Lucy, a friend from his youth. He finds that the erstwhile frivolous young lady has become a spiteful old woman, bitter about her marriage, but Philip, who at first listens to her stories only grudgingly, soon gets to the heart of the matter.

Louis Begley, born in Poland in 1933, worked as an attorney in New York until 2004. His works have been translated into more than 15 languages and have received multiple awards.
