Documentary film with introduction by Laurence Stallings, d.a.i. Tübingen. In 1964, Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters left the West Coast for an adventurous journey across the United States in an old but colorfully painted school bus called "Further". Kesey, the author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo´s Nest, and his pals wanted to advertise a new lifestyle of direct artistic action and pacifist values. On the road, Kesey and his pals made all kinds of chaotic home videos which have never before been released. Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney and Alison Ellwood were given access to the film material and they have transformed it into a ravishing documentary about a period of American history that is both idealistic and ridiculous at the same time.
