Roots Music from the Louisiana Swamps.

Zydeco is one of the most expressive sounds of roots music. It evolved in the late 19th century blending Cajun music with R&B and is now a familiar sound to many. For more than 20 years the singer, songwriter, and accordionist Nathan Williams has been a shooting star in the Zydeco scene, touring the world and releasing seven albums. He combines fast and furious accordion music with rub board percussions and electric guitars. In the world of contemporary African-American music, roots styles are easily categorized as old music, good for sampling, but not music that related to the lives of mainstream American people. However, Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas might make us think twice about this assumption, for here is an example of uplifting, new music that remains connected and has its place in history.
