Beschreibung

Online Reading and Talk with Clint Smith, Maryland. Beginning in his own hometown of New Orleans, Clint Smith tells the captivating story of monuments and landmarks across the U.S. that offer an intergenerational story of how slavery has been central in shaping the nation’s collective history and its people. How the Word Is Passed illustrates how some of America’s most essential stories are hidden in plain view. Whether in places people might drive by on their way to work, holidays such as Juneteenth, or entire neighborhoods – like downtown Manhattan – on which the brutal history of the trade in enslaved men, women and children has been deeply imprinted.

Clint Smith is a staff writer for The Atlantic, a poet, and a scholar. He received a doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. His essays, poems, and scholarly writing have been published in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, the Harvard Educational Review, and many more. His first nonfiction book, How the Word Is Passed, topped the New York Times Best Seller list in June 2021.
