In the USA, "High School Musicals" are not just well-known Disney films, or portrayed only in the TV series "Glee." In many parts of the country these three little words capture a much larger annual event. These school musicals are not just casual opportunities for students to dabble in theater either. The period of auditions, rehearsals and performances has become a rite of passage on par with prom and graduation. It is no wonder then, that the High School Musical has become an industry of its own. Jane Feuer, American Studies Fullbright fellow, and expert in the field, will shed some light on the cultural significance of the events and present film clips.
